The Central Arkansas Tree Planting Project is a three-year effort to plant 166,000 native trees across Pulaski, Saline, Perry, Grant, Faulkner, and Lonoke counties by the end of 2029. It is funded by an EPA grant awarded to Metroplan, and the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service manages and distributes the trees with support from the Arkansas Watershed Steward Program and a growing list of partners, including the City of Bryant.
More than two dozen native tree species are offered. Trees help filter pollutants, slow stormwater runoff, shade homes and streets, and store carbon for decades.
Free potted trees are available now through the end of October. Beginning in November, the project switches to bare-root seedlings for spring planting, and the order link on this page will be updated when that form becomes available.
Who Can Request Trees
Individuals and groups in the six participating counties may request trees, including homeowners, farms, schools, churches, nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies.
What Recipients Agree To
- Plant the trees promptly after receiving them.
- Record an accurate planting location for each tree.
- Make an effort to keep the trees alive. Metroplan may ask for photos later as part of its quality assurance program.
