Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become a police officer?

The best place to start is the Human Resources page on the City website. The City's Human Resources department handles all applications for employment positions.

Do you have a jail at the Police Department?

No. The jail for this area is located at the Saline County Detention Center at 735 S. Neely, Benton, AR. The Detention Center's phone number is (501) 303-5642.

What are the hours of operation of the Police Department's lobby and administrative offices?

Rest assured that police officers are on patrol 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The administrative portion of the Police Department and the Police Department lobby are open from 8:00 AM-4:30 PM, Monday-Friday (except on legal holidays). The building is closed on weekends. Our phones are manned 24 hours a day. If you have an emergency, dial 911. For non-emergencies, call (501) 943-0864.

When should I call 911 instead of the non-emergency number?

An "emergency" is any situation that threatens human life or property and demands attention immediately. Among other emergencies, this may also include crimes that are "in progress," medical situations or the smell of smoke in a building. If a situation fits one or more of these criteria, then it warrants a call to 911. In those situations, the rule is: DON'T STALL; CALL!

When you dial 911, keep in mind that the person you will be talking to is attempting to help you right from the start. Please remain calm and answer any and all questions asked by your dispatcher. Let the dispatcher lead the conversation; you will be given an opportunity to speak after the dispatcher has gotten the most urgently needed information. Unless staying on the line puts you at risk, do not hang up until the dispatcher tells you to. Dispatchers are trained to multitask and to simultaneously summon assistance for you during your call. In fact, you may even have more than one dispatcher on the line with you during your call to 911 so rest assured that staying on the phone DOES NOT prolong our emergency response.

I am a victim of identity theft. What should I do?

Victims of identity theft should contact the following credit bureaus immediately:

  • Equifax 1-888-766-0008
  • Transunion 1-800-680-7289
  • Experian 1-800-397-3742

Then, if you are a Bryant resident, you should gather all the paperwork/evidence available regarding the identity theft and call our non-emergency number at (501) 943-0864 to report the incident. Alternatively, you may come to the Police Department at 312 Roya Lane and report the incident in person from 8:00 AM-4:30 PM Monday-Friday. Please bring your identification along with all of the documentation involving the matter with you.

How do I learn more about hiring officers to work off-duty?

How does the Bryant Police Department handle complaints of excessive force or other allegations?

The Bryant Police Department has a Professional Standards Unit to review and investigate all complaints. Complaints can be made by a person by filling out a form that is available online or at the Police Department. All complaints are thoroughly investigated. A typical complaint investigation involves a review of all body camera audio and video, review of all dash camera audio and video, conducting interviews and taking written statements of the complainant(s) and any witnesses. Once the investigation is complete, a report is created and sent to the Police Department Administration. The complainant is made aware of the findings at the end of the investigation.

The Bryant Police Department conducts officer investigations into a variety of situations, even when no complaints by the public have been made. This is done to ensure policies and proper police practices are followed at all times.

What if I file a complaint about an officer with the Police Department and I am unsatisfied with the outcome of the investigation?

In any case, you have the right to contact your elected officials about any misconduct, including the Mayor, City Council, the City Attorney, and State and Federal Representatives. You may also contact the Arkansas Attorney General's Office, Arkansas State Police, FBI, and/or U.S. Attorney.
